June marks National Cancer Survivors Month. Reflecting on my son's journey battling leukemia for three and a half years, I'm grateful for the incredible support we received. Each person's experience is unique, and for a child, it truly takes a village. Thank you to Dr. Robert Bergamini, Dr. Robin Hanson, Cardinals Kids Cancer Center at Mercy Children's Hospital St. Louis, the amazing nurses, and Friends of Kids with Cancer for helping ensure that more of his days were spent being a kid than being a patient. #CancerSurvivorMonth #Gratitude 🎗️

You might have noticed we are having a heatwave across many of our communities, and I am sure it won’t be the last one we experience this summer. I am proud of my Kaiser Permanente colleagues who led a program to give away free air conditioners to certain low-income members in Oregon a few summers ago when extreme temperatures put them at risk. We are now working with the state to help implement the new climate coverage waiver that will provide Medicaid members In Oregon with units and other protective equipment to keep them safe during extreme weather. https://lnkd.in/gCQSsRHy

What started as work to collect unused food from local restaurants and distribute to residents in Fresno, California has grown into a new, modern food hub that will serve people throughout the South Fresno area. I am so proud of my colleagues at Kaiser Permanente Fresno Medical Center and all our local community partners, including Fresno Metro Ministry , who are behind such an incredible project. https://lnkd.in/grxrgBXq

Through our ongoing partnership with the Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) Club, Kaiser Permanente is bringing a wellness curriculum to students in Southern California public schools that prioritizes whole health ― including physical, mental and emotional health ― for lifelong success. Designed in partnership with Science of Sports, the LAFC Fit curriculum includes a mix of activities students can do with family and friends to learn and spread healthy behaviors, including, you guessed it, playing soccer and cheering for their favorite LAFC players! https://lnkd.in/g7a-svVK

Here's another study underscoring the link between health inequities and climate change, this time showing that heat waves exacerbate adverse birth outcomes, particularly among Black mothers. This is why Kaiser Permanente is committed to environmental action that includes raising awareness about the health impacts of climate change, while pursue better policies and sustainable business practices that build healthy and resilient communities. https://lnkd.in/gr34cwCG
