Did they fix the performance/pop in? I haven't touched the game in a very long time, but checked the trello roadmap and saw nothing about performance stuff. Just various items of "RELEASE THE GAME" on the menu.

They just wait for everyone to have an SSD for game installs, if you only have a HDD expect a massive stutter

Subnautica turned out to be the prime example for me of a early access game that got developed in a circlejerk echochamber of people screaming "reeeeEEE reeeEEEEALISM" and "make it harder, more frustrating!". And then for some reason they catered to those people.

That's an odd complaint, what is too realistic in it? You easily survive being chewed by biggest of sea monsters by applying a medkit, don't have to build buildings one log at a time, don't suffer from sickness and have plentiful food and water. Among survival games Subnautica definitely favors exploration gameplay over the pointless realism.

They really just need a hardcore version for all these super-survival idiots where your character only has 3 limbs, a gastric bypass, and hyperglycemia.

Nah, it's a diving game, so you should manage refilling the air tank at compressor after every dive, and get nitrogen narcosis if you dive too deep without switching to a proper breathing mix(manufactured in the limited amount of course). And don't forget the realistic decompression sickness if you surface too fast - you were working 5 minutes at 40 meter depth? That's about 2 hours of decompression stops during ascent before you can get back to surface.

Sadly cyclops just isn't good enough, even though cave sizes allow to drive it in, you'll probably save yourself some nerve cells by just parking it next to cave entrance and taking the prawn suit from there to power plant and containment facility. And then you enable the portals and even using cyclops as the mobile base loses any meaning.

All this poo poo sounds cool, except never finding an MP room. Why are these so hard to find!

But radio signals lead you to all the places where those are, if it was any easier to find it doesn't even qualify as finding.

Do solar panels work deep down? What's the best way to power bases generally? I'm still fairly early game but I'm getting rather tired of my whole base going to sleep every night

No, they should be near surface or above water. Solar panels are ok low effort mode, just add more of them for a buffer to last through night time. Bioreactor is good, just shove any organic crap in and get power. Nuclear is pretty expensive, but who cares, thermal is great if you have a geyser nearby and can put it somewhere where it's above 50 degrees.

I need a little advice solving a little problem I'm having.

So I've reach the lava zone and I'm looking to mine some kyanite so can I upgrade my Cyclops and Prawn suit, but all the kyanite nodes I've encountered need the Prawn's drill arm to mine it, which normally wouldn't be a problem but all the kyanite nodes I've found are well past the Prawn's crush depth. Makes the whole situation a bit of a catch 22.

Anyone have any suggestions.

You need the first prawn depth upgrade that brings it from 900 to 1300, it doesn't need kyanite, just nickel you find in lost river. 1300 should be enough to reach some kyanite

Don't get me wrong, people should be held accountable for their varying degrees of terrible views and spouting them to an audience. But firing the Lead Sound Designer on a game universally lauded for its stellar sound design is not "trimming the fat". It's a huuuugge blow.

I mean, did you hear those leviathan roars? It's just saying "get off our planet, illegal immigrant trash".
At least it does to all the brokebrains complaining the game was not made by 100% organic, vegan, gluten free liberals.

I’m at like 10 hours in and still waiting for the Lifepod 2 signal so I can figure out where to build my base in the goon recommended fashion.

But why? My favourite place is near the geyser on the border of safe shallows - it's basically next to red grass and creep wine biomes so you have access to all basic resources without going far. Thermal plants will get infinite energy later, plentiful fish to shove in bioreactor, and it's shallow enough to get part of your base above water and stick solar panels on it.

I finally go into the Aurora. I have tons of medkits and supplies since I have no idea what to expect. I'm just walking around, trying to figure out where to go. As I'm walking around the game suddenly freezes up and then:

I was at full health. I wasn't taking damage. I don't even loving know what killed me. But it killed me instantly with literally no chance for me to react. And because I mistakenly thought the hardcore mode in this game actually served some purpose, I lost my save file to this bullsh*t.

Did you remove some part of your radiation suit?

I wish. Don't have the prawn grappling arm. Or the drill. Or any other prawn gear for that matter. First time i played I got every single prawn arm but couldn't build the prawn itself. This run I have the prawn but no arms to put on it.

To try and make things more interesting I built my base in the bulb forest near the Aurora, and am trying to to only use local resources. Problem is there are tons of reapers around. If I'm gonna stay dedicated to staying local for most of my harvesting it would be nice to kill some of them. I kind of wanna try making a ton of gas torpedos and outfitting a seamoth for war with them.

Plan B then - build a grow bed near reaper, fill it with tiger plants, bait reaper to swim over it and trap it with stasis, then swim so tiger plants shoot you and hit the reaper instead.

My experience is that "hull integrity" only takes effect on bases when adding things on. Positive hull integrity means you can add more negative stuff, negative means it's going to keep leaking until you make it positive somehow. One collision with anything will always cause a bunch of hull breaches on your base regardless of hull integrity.

Doesn't having breaches lower the hull integrity? So if your base is near 0 you slightly bump it and everything gets flooded and gets even more breaches
