The 2025 state fiscal year budget builds on this investmentwith more than $19 million to provide critical care to youngpeople. Research suggests a trend, link between the COVID-19 pandemic and emotional disturbance in children and adolescents. This may lead to more children qualifying for services under IDEA's emotional disturbance category. While data on nationwide IDEA eligibility changes is still emerging, studies show a rise in mental health referrals and diagnoses among youth during the pandemic.#Education #MentalHealth

"We need to have services that are designed to meet the specific needs of youth, and we can't be retrofitting services that are built for adults, in a system that's built for adults, and expect that that's going to map onto teenagers. The way that teenagers have begun to engage socially and interpersonally has really shifted over time, and we need to make sure that our services are aligning with those shifts." --Amber W. Children’s Mental Health is in crisis. Scratch that. Children and adolescents (teens) mental health is in crisis. According to Mental Health of America, more than 60% of youth with depression don’t receive any mental health treatment. But what are we doing about it? Well, Dominion Hospital is doing a lot to decrease these statistics and here’s a few examples of how we’re doing it: 🔸Treating Children- We recognize that children under the age of 13, have a limited amount of mental health resources which is why Dominion Hospital is one of the only facilities in Northern Virginia with an inpatient and outpatient (PHP) child program for kiddos ages 5-12 years old. 🔹Supporting our Schools - The last school year was supposed to bring a return to normalcy but the stress of transitioning back to in-person learning has lead to millions of students with stress, anxiety, and depression. As a facility we recognize the burden that school counselors, teachers and faculty are feeling which is why we offer virtual self-care workshops and parent mental health support groups to support themselves and their students mental health needs. 🔸All Hands on Deck– Just over a year ago, the US Surgeon General announced an urgent public health crisis among our youth and that it would require an “All Hands On Deck” effort. At Dominion Hospital we operate daily with an all hands on deck approach. It’s not uncommon to hear our Chief Nursing Officer pick up an admission call or find a director greeting a family in our lobby. 🔹Direct Access to Care- Dominion Hospital recently created a provider direct admission line which allows a mental health professionals to call our admission team directly to consult a case when an individual near them is experiencing a mental health crisis. Additionally, we have added online outpatient scheduling to our website so that if anyone needs a higher level of care such as a daytime or evening mental health program, they can simply visit our website and schedule an assessment. The numbers tell the story of a deepening crisis which is why as an organization, HCA Healthcare is listening to your community needs and creating facilities similar to Dominion Hospital in other parts of the country. We’re not waiting to implement solutions, we’re making it happen. #hcahealthcare #mentalhealth

Inspiring to see our investor Reach Capital making this commitment to Cartwheel, who is working to address the #mentalhealth crisis plaguing today's students. This is something we are also working to mitigate at Polygence, described in our White Paper on supporting student mental health https://lnkd.in/gJypujVd
